Dental & Tooth Implants at Cranbourne Family Dental

At Cranbourne Family Dental, we provide affordable dental implants to replace missing natural teeth or dentures, helping to restore the ability to chew (implants can also be used to stabilise loose dentures).

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made from titanium. An “anchor” is placed into your jaw and positioned the same as a natural tooth. Then an artificial crown or ‘cap’ is placed on top of this “anchor” to secure the implant in place.

More comfortable than dentures, dental implants are cared for, and function like, your own natural teeth. Dental implants anchored by sufficient bone can last for many years, and has one of the highest success rates of any procedure performed in dentistry.

What can I expect?

The dental implants procedure is generally performed in the dental office with local anaesthetic. Implants are placed in three stages:
1. The surgeon places the implant in the jaw. The gum is then secured over the implant and left covered for around three to six months. This allows the implant to fuse to the bone, a process called ‘osseointegration’.
2. The implant is uncovered and an abutment (connector) is placed on-top of the implant.
3. A crown (artificial cap) is placed on this abutment

There may be some swelling or tenderness for a few days after the surgery, but recovery time is generally minimal. Like any form of surgery, potential complications will be discussed with your Cranbourne Family dentist.

Am I a candidate for implants?

If you are in good health and have adequate bone to support the procedure, implants can be placed in patients of all ages. Your Cranbourne Family Dental dentist will use a special CT X-ray to carefully assess whether you are a candidate.

At Cranbourne Family Dental, we offer the best dental implants at your local clinic. Dr Naser Albabari, our visiting specialist oral surgeon, has advanced training in implant surgery, having a Master of Science and Speciality Membership of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians in Glasgow.
